Islamorada Swordfishing

This is a daytime swordfishing trip. We run 25 miles out and drop on a ledge that’s 1500 to 1700 feet deep using electric reels. Weather conditions have to be fair to be able to run this trip. Swordfish we catch range from 50-600 pounds. If you are looking to target a big billfish this is the trip for you.

Target Species

On these trips, we’re strictly targeting swordfish deep in the Atlantic Ocean. Every drop takes precious time so we’re focusing all of our efforts on getting you hooked into a deepwater monster. We’re using a mix of baits including dolphin belly, bonita belly, bonita strips, mackerel, and squid.

Where We Fish

Where we run for swordfish varies based on the season and where they’re biting. We’re typically running 25+ miles out to the “Rat Hole,” a deepwater ledge that runs from 1,500′-1,700′ deep.

What's Included

Swordfishing requires big boats and heavy tackle to get you where you need to go in comfort and reel up these monsters reliably. When you arrive we have the boat fully rigged and ready to go. The LegaSea has ample comfortable seating both inside and out for the longer runs to our swordfishing spots. We use heavy duty rods and electric reels to help fight these massive fish from the depths to the service.

Our captain and mate are with you every step of the way to ensure your fishing experience is fun and safe.

When we get back to the dock, our mate will fillet and package your catch for transport home. There are always tarpon and sharks swimming around the docks and we invite you to feed these massive fish with the scraps—it’s a great time.

If you prefer, Three Waters Marina has a tiki bar where you can hang out and have a drink while we process your catch.

What To Bring

Come dressed for the weather. We highly recommend lightweight, SPF Clothing and grippy shoes. Be sure to bring everything you’d like to eat and drink for the day. If it rains, we can hop inside the cabin to stay dry and wait it out. We have plenty of storage on board for your gear and the coolers are loaded with ice.

We recommend taking seasickness medication the night before your trip and the morning of your trip. If you’re unsure if you get seasick, we highly recommend taking some just in case.

These are typically longer trips so be sure to bring plenty of food and beverages to keep you energized for the big fights to come.
